“Let Nature Be Your Teacher” …William Wordsworth
Award winning artist Sheila Carey was born in New London, CT and has almost always lived near the sea. A lifelong fascination with art began as a child and continues now as she creates mystical seascapes of the ocean she loves–sometimes accenting her work with boats, mermaids and animals. Recent paintings include abstracts of water, done in complementary colors. This artist’s skillful range of talent is evidenced by humorous Pet Portraits, People and Home portraits, a series of Ireland paintings produced during an Art residency there–and a “Montana Series” currently in progress–inspired by a May 2008 trip to a Montana Dude Ranch.
Her education includes a degree in Design from the Ray-Vogue College of Design in Chicago, Illinois; scholarships completed at John Herron School of Art, Indianapolis, Indiana and Norwich Free Academy, Norwich, Connecticut. In addition, she has honed her craft at Ringling School of Art, Sarasota; University of Hawaii, Honolulu; and the University of Nevada.
Exhibitions of her work have been held in Honolulu, Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, Sarasota, Venice, Punta Gorda and Englewood.
